The Gifts of Imperfection

Author :Brene Brown

Publication Year : 2022 Update

This was the first book I read when trying to self-heal… and maybe it wasn’t the best option for me at the time. Since then, and a lot of learning and healing later, I have read this book several times and it has had great impact on me.

Brene challenges the cultural myths that our value is connected with being flawless, productive or constantly “enough.” Using her research in shame, vulnerability, and resilience, she explains how perfectionism keeps us trapped in cycles of fear, comparison, and self-doubt. Instead of striving for unattainable standards, she encourages us to embrace our authenticity, learn self-compassion, and recognise our worth. The book’s foundation rests on the idea of living “wholeheartedly,” where worthiness is not something to be earned but something we already possess.

This book began my journey in understanding and processing my emotions and outlook on my life through my own eyes and not everyone else’s.
