The 3 Secrets of Resilient People
Dr Lucy Hone is a resilience researcher who spent years studying how people recover from adversity, and then, without warning, she became one of them. When her 12-year-old daughter Abi was killed in a car accident, she had to put everything she knew to the test. This talk is what came out of that. In it, she shares the three strategies that actually got her through: understanding that suffering is part of every human life (not a sign something has gone uniquely wrong for you), learning to direct your attention toward what you still have rather than only what you’ve lost, and asking yourself honestly whether what you’re thinking or doing is helping you or harming you.
What makes this worth watching isn’t just the research; it’s that Lucy doesn’t deliver it from a safe distance. She’s standing in front of you as someone who has been in the deepest kind of grief and found her way through it. It can be learned, practised, and built, even when you’re in the middle of falling apart.
