Open Path Collective

You’ve done the hard part of getting safe. Now you’re ready to talk to someone. A real therapist who can sit with you while you make sense of what happened and start to understand who you are on the other side of it. But therapy is expensive. If you’ve spent months or years under financial control, or you’re just uninsured or underinsured, that cost can feel like yet another door that won’t open for you.

The Resilient Blueprint is a resource site I built because I’ve been where you are, and I spent too long unable to find the right kind of help at a price I could actually afford. Every resource here is included because I genuinely believe it serves survivors. Open Path is one I wish I’d known about much sooner.

What it is

Open Path Collective is a US- and Canada-based nonprofit that connects people with licensed, vetted therapists offering significantly reduced session rates.

You can access it through a browser and search for therapists offering online sessions, in-person appointments, or both. Individual sessions run $40–$70 USD. A supervised student intern option is available at a flat $30 USD. To access the network, you pay a one-time $65 lifetime membership fee, which supports the nonprofit directly. Open Path is available to people in the US or Canada with a household income below $100,000 per year who don’t have adequate mental health insurance coverage.

Why it’s here

Cost is one of the most common reasons survivors delay therapy. Standard private therapy rates of $150–$200 per session are simply out of reach for a lot of people, especially anyone still rebuilding financially after an abusive relationship.

What makes Open Path stand out for this audience isn’t just price. It’s the control it hands back to you. You search the directory yourself, read through therapist profiles at your own pace, and can message someone directly before you commit to anything. After years of having choices made for you or having your own perceptions questioned, being the one who decides who you work with and when matters more than it might sound.

The directory lets you filter specifically for domestic abuse, trauma, PTSD, CPTSD, and sexual assault and abuse. You can also filter by treatment modality, EMDR, trauma-focused CBT, DBT, which is useful if you’ve already done some reading and want to be intentional about your approach rather than just taking whoever is available.

How it works

Search the directory using filters for speciality, session format, and location. You can message a therapist from their profile before signing up to ask questions and get a feel for fit. Once you’ve chosen someone, you pay the one-time $65 membership fee to receive your Member ID, then schedule directly with your therapist. Open Path takes no cut of session fees, no recurring costs. Your membership also includes a free therapist-led video library covering topics such as trauma, grief, and starting therapy, plus access to 19 wellness education courses.

A few honest friction points: the membership fee is non-refundable; not every therapist in the directory offers online sessions; therapist availability varies by location; and Open Path doesn’t include psychiatry or prescription services.

Who this is for and who it might not be for

This might resonate if you:

  • Are in the US or Canada and have been putting off therapy because the cost felt genuinely impossible.
  • Want to choose your own therapist and filter specifically for experience with trauma, abuse, or PTSD.
  • Are uninsured or have insurance that technically covers mental health, but with a deductible that makes it impractical.

It might not be the right fit if:

  • You’re based outside the US or Canada. Open Path isn’t available internationally.
  • Your insurance covers therapy well, or you can comfortably afford market rates. The service is specifically designed for those who can’t.
  • You’re also looking for medication management or psychiatric support. Open Path’s network doesn’t include psychiatrists.
