Kiva – Microfinance

I’ve recently released a series of posts about microfinancing for women. This is my way of contributing to the world, instead of being pulled into the rage and anger triggered by the horrors of what is occurring in our world.

Kiva is a nonprofit organisation that connects individual lenders (you and me) to underserved borrowers around the world, enabling people to make microloans as small as US $25 to support entrepreneurs, farmers, and small business owners who lack access to traditional financing.

Through these loans, Kiva promotes financial inclusion and empowers individuals to grow their ventures, support their families, and improve community livelihoods. It has been economically proven that women with small businesses will reinvest into their families and children, including their daughters, who are often not a priority in the family dynamics. This program encourages empowerment rather than charity.

You can lend to multiple parties, and once you receive your repayments, you can relend or withdraw your funding.

I highly recommend reading more about Kiva and the programs they offer around the world. Borrowers post their stores, and if you lend, you will receive updates about their ventures as they progress.
