It’s Complicated

When the immediate chaos has settled, and you’re left with the quieter, harder question of what actually happened to you, and what you want to do with that now. You know you want to talk to someone. But finding a therapist who speaks your language, sometimes literally, sometimes figuratively, and who has real experience with trauma and psychological abuse can feel like yet another exhausting task on an already long list.

The Resilient Blueprint is a resource site I built because I’ve lived this, and I know how hard it is to find the right kind of help. Everything here is chosen because I genuinely believe it serves at this stage of rebuilding. It’s Complicated is one of the more thoughtful platforms I’ve come across, and I want to tell you exactly why.

What it is

It’s Complicated is a global therapist directory and matching platform, founded in 2019 by two therapists. It connects you with independent, accredited mental health professionals offering online and in-person sessions in more than 60 languages, across 80+ countries.

There is no subscription and no platform fee. Therapists set their own rates and are paid directly.  Session costs vary by practitioner and are listed transparently on each profile. You can use a free matching survey to receive personal recommendations, or browse and filter the directory yourself by language, speciality, therapeutic approach, location, and session cost. Free self-tests for depression, anxiety, ADHD, and self-esteem are also available on the site without an account.

Why it’s here

It’s Complicated was built by therapists, and that comes through in how it works. The matching process is human, not algorithmic. The platform takes no cut of session fees. Therapists are vetted and independent, not gig workers on a platform driving down rates.

For TRB’s audience specifically, what stands out is how precisely you can search. The directory includes specific filters for psychological abuse, narcissism, attachment, complex PTSD, and somatic approaches, not just broad categories like “trauma” or “relationships.” That matters when what you experienced doesn’t always fit neatly into how mainstream therapy describes it.

It’s also genuinely global. If you’re not in the US, Open Path isn’t an option. This is. And if English isn’t your first language or you simply want a therapist who understands your cultural context, the 60+ language filter makes that possible in a way few platforms do.

How it works

Complete the free matching survey to receive personalised therapist recommendations, or search the directory directly using filters for language, speciality, location, and price range. Each profile shows the therapist’s background, approach, session format, and their typical response time. Create a free account with just an email address, then contact your chosen therapist directly to book. Sessions are arranged and paid directly to the therapist.  It’s Complicated doesn’t handle payment or scheduling.

Who this is for and who it might not be for

This might resonate if you:

  • Want to filter specifically for therapists who work with psychological abuse, narcissism, or complex PTSD, not just general trauma
  • Prefer to choose your own therapist from full profiles rather than being matched by an algorithm, and want to see response times and rates upfront.

It might not be the right fit if:

  • You’re on a tight budget and need low-cost guaranteed rates. Session fees vary by therapist and can be comparable to private practice pricing.
  • You’re looking for a platform that integrates scheduling and payment in one place. The booking experience here is direct with the therapist, which suits some people and not others.
