Some days, the idea of getting on a video call and talking about what happened to someone you’ve just met, face-to-face, in real time is more than you can manage. Not because you don’t want to do the work, but because that particular format requires a version of yourself you’re not always able to access right now. There’s real value in being able to put things into words at 11pm, when the thoughts actually surface, and have someone qualified respond thoughtfully, without a camera, without scheduling, without having to be ready on someone else’s timetable.
I started The Resilient Blueprint as a survivor, for survivors, and everything I recommend here I look at carefully before sharing. I share things because they remove a real barrier for people who are ready to start understanding themselves more clearly.
What Is Calmerry?
Calmerry is a US-based online therapy platform available across all US states, accessible via browser or app on iOS and Android. It offers a choice of subscription plans combining unlimited text messaging with a licensed therapist (who responds five days a week) and optional live video sessions. Plans start at $49.50 per week for messaging only, rising to $73.75 per week for messaging plus four 30-minute live video sessions per month, all billed monthly.
A standalone 60-minute video session can also be purchased for $120 without a subscription. Calmerry does not accept insurance directly but provides receipts for potential reimbursement, and financial aid of up to 30% off for three months is available for those who need it.
There is no free trial, but a mood tracker, guided journaling tool, and a library of over 100 resources are accessible without a paid subscription. All therapists are licensed in the US state where the client is located.
Why It’s Here
Most general therapy platforms list anxiety and depression, and leave it there. Calmerry’s listed specialities include emotional abuse, childhood abuse, low self-esteem, grief and trauma, PTSD, and relationship issues, which maps very directly onto what brings most people to TRB in the first place.
The text-first model matters too. For people working through experiences of control or surveillance, the ability to communicate in writing at your own pace, in your own time can feel different to being on camera with a relative stranger. You can articulate something carefully, read it back, send it when you’re ready. Your therapist responds within the same working day, five days a week. It’s not instant, and it shouldn’t be. It’s a considered exchange, which is often exactly what this kind of work needs.
How It Works
Sign up, complete a brief assessment about what you’re working through and your preferences, and get matched with a licensed therapist. You can choose whether you want a messaging-only plan, a video-only plan, or a combination and switch between plans at any time. On messaging plans, you can write to your therapist at any time through the app; they respond once or twice daily, Monday to Friday. On plans that include video, sessions are 30 minutes long and can be chained back-to-back if you want a longer session. All paid plans include a personalised therapy plan, free therapist switching, a mood tracker, guided journaling, and a library of 100+ resources.
A few things worth knowing: live video sessions are 30 minutes, which are shorter than the standard therapy hour, and the therapist is only available weekdays, so if you message over the weekend, expect a reply Monday.
Who This Is For and Who It Might Not Be
This might resonate if you:
- Are based in the US and want a therapy platform that explicitly covers emotional abuse, low self-esteem, grief and trauma, and PTSD as specialities.
- Prefer the written format for therapy, at least to start. The ability to message your therapist at any time and receive a considered daily response removes the pressure of being camera-ready and emotionally available on schedule.
- Want the tools to start before committing fully. The mood tracker, journaling feature, and resource library are available without a subscription, which lets you explore before you pay.
It might not be the right fit if:
- You’re outside the United States. Calmerry operates in the US only, and therapists must be licensed in the state where you’re physically located.
- You need longer or more frequent live sessions. The video sessions are 30 minutes each, and even on the most comprehensive plan, you receive four per month. That might feel insufficient depending where you are in healing.
