Feeling safe isn’t just about where you are. It’s about knowing that if something happened, someone would know. That gap between being okay and feeling okay really matters. Sometimes what helps most is something small and practical that gives your nervous system one less thing to carry.
The Resilient Blueprint is a resource site I built as a survivor for those who are safe and working through what rebuilding actually looks like.Â
What It Is
bSafe is a personal safety app available on iOS and Android, developed by a Norwegian company and available in over 125 countries. It is built around a guardian network, people you designate as trusted contacts, who are alerted and can track you in real time if you activate an alarm. Core features include an SOS alarm that can be triggered by touch or voice (even with the phone in your pocket or bag), live audio and video streaming to your guardians when the alarm is activated, automatic recording that is sent to guardians even if your phone is subsequently destroyed, real-time GPS location sharing, a Follow Me function that lets trusted contacts monitor your route and triggers an automatic alert if you haven’t checked in by a set time, and a Fake Call feature that makes your phone appear to ring from a named contact. The app has some functionality that’s available free, but full access to the SOS and streaming features requires a paid premium subscription. Check the app store or getbsafe.com for current pricing.
Why It’s Here
Feeling unsafe in your body is different from being in danger. After abuse, your threat response has been trained to stay on. You scan. You check. You think through scenarios. That response kept you alert when it mattered but it’s exhausting to maintain when the threat is gone.
Part of what helps the nervous system begin to settle is having back-up. That there is a system running quietly in the background taking some weight off your vigilance. That’s what bSafe offers. For someone rebuilding independence, going places alone, reclaiming ordinary activities that still feel risky.
How It Works
- Download the app on iOS or Android and create a free account
- Set up your guardian network. The people who will be alerted if you activate an SOS; this requires having at least one trusted person who also has the app or can receive alerts
- The Fake Call and Follow Me functions are available for everyday use. You can set a check-in timer before a walk, run, or outing, with an automatic alert to your guardians if you don’t check in
- The SOS alarm can be triggered by touching the button or by a voice command, hands-free
- Important: Multiple users report that the core SOS and live streaming features require a premium subscription, and that this isn’t clearly signalled until you attempt to use them. The default billing option at sign-up appears to be annual rather than monthly. This is worth checking before you confirm
- No live human monitoring is provided. Alerts go to your personal guardian network, not to a response centre.Â
Who This Is For and Who It Might Not Be For
This might resonate if you:
- Are rebuilding independence and want something running in the background when you’re out alone. Not because you expect something to happen, but because knowing it’s there changes how you feel.
- Have at least one or two trusted people in your life who could act as guardians and be alerted in an emergency.
- Want practical, portable safety that travels with you rather than a fixed home system.
It might not be the right fit if:
- Your support network is limited right now and you don’t have reliable people to designate as guardians. The app’s core value depends on having trusted contacts set up and available to respond.
- You’re uncomfortable with an app that has ongoing access to your microphone and camera. The live streaming function is a core feature, and that level of access may feel uncomfortable depending on your situation.
